CXPRESS recently experienced world-class culinary entertainment in spectacular surrounds when attending a
gourmet food and wine pairing evening with award-winning chef Jodi-Ann Pearton at The Fernery Lodge &
Chalets, built above a 30m waterfall in the Tsitsikamma's beautiful Sand rift River gorge.
At a mere 27 years of age, Jodi-Ann currently holds the titles of SA Chef of the Year, Global Chef of the Year,
and Sunday Times Chef of the Year, to name a few.She hosts her own radio show, has presented a variety of
local TV food shows, and is the owner of The Food Design Agency in Joburg.
Inspired by the best of local produce her four-course menu was expertly paired with Kranskop wines, resulting
in a sensory experience that delighted the small group of privileged guests in the Fernery's Intimate dining room
to the brink of euphoria.
Winemaker Newald Marais introduced the Kranskop offerings from his farm near Robertson with humour and
fascinating background on how each cultivar came about. And after this thoroughly enjoyable wining and dining
experience, the rest of the evening was spent mingling over drinks while taking in the breath-taking surrounds
of The Fernery Lodge & Chalets - current title holders of the Best Boutique Hotel in the Eastern Cape.
